To achieve sub-millisecond keyboard response times and true independent device remapping, IsoKey operates below standard user-space hooks, isolating hardware device IDs at the Windows kernel level via our custom IsoKFilter driver.

However, modern Windows 64-bit systems strictly require all kernel-mode drivers to be signed. Obtaining an Extended Validation (EV) Code Signing Certificate is a significant financial hurdle, costing around $500/year.
